The SmartPet Tracker Mini is a smart and versatile Bluetooth locator, designed for owners of cats, birds, and other small pets. Its biggest advantage? This compact tracker works seamlessly with the free FindTag app, available for both Android and Apple (iOS) smartphones. This gives everyone the ability to keep an eye on their beloved pet.
This device is extremely small and lightweight (only 2.7 grams), making it comfortable to attach to a collar, leg ring, or even to keys, bags, or suitcases.
How Do Location Tracking and Range Work?
It is important to understand how this Bluetooth tracker works, both nearby and at greater distances:

1. Nearby Search (Nearby Beep):

How it works: When the tracker is close to your own smartphone and within Bluetooth range, you can use the FindTag app to activate a sound alert on the tracker itself. A small speaker icon lights up in the app to indicate that the tracker is within range.

Range: The direct Bluetooth range is usually several dozen metres, depending on the environment, such as walls inside the home or dense vegetation outdoors. This is ideal for finding your pet if, for example, it is hiding somewhere in the house or is nearby in the garden.

2. Map Search (Map Find) – Network-Based Location:

How it works: If the tracker moves outside the direct Bluetooth range of your phone, the ‘Map Find’ function comes into play. The tracker then uses the network of other FindTag app users. If another person who has the FindTag app installed and open comes close to your missing tracker, their phone can detect the signal from your tracker. This anonymous location data is transmitted in encrypted form, allowing you to see the most recently known location of your tracker on the map in your app.

Range: This network-based coverage is worldwide, depending on the density of FindTag app users. It is not real-time remote tracking, but it gives you an indication of where the tracker was last detected by another device. The supplier notes that ‘the location update is not real-time’ and that a ‘fast and reliable network query service cannot be guaranteed.’

Movement History: The tracker can also store up to 3 days of its own movement history. Once the tracker reconnects to your phone, or another phone within the network, you can view this historical location data in the app. You can filter by recent periods such as 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, or 1 day to view the corresponding location data.
Installation and Ease of Use:

App Installation: Download the FindTag app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android), or via the QR code in the user manual.

Sign Up: Register an account with a username and password.

Pairing: Tap the search icon in the app to scan for all nearby Bluetooth devices. Tap your SmartPet Tracker to connect it to your phone.

Switching On/Off:

With button: Press and hold the switch until you hear 4 short beeps to turn it on. Press and hold again until you hear 2 short beeps to turn it off.

Without button: Remove the insulating tab to switch it on; you will hear 1 beep. Switching it off is not described for this version.

Sharing: You can share the location of a connected tracker with up to 2 other users through their FindTag accounts. They will then also be able to view the tracker’s location information.

Removing Access: Shared devices can be removed from other phones again through the app.
