During our stay in Spain, we were once again confronted with a harsh reality: the enormous problem of stray animals. Annually, an estimated more than 340,000 animals are abandoned here. As animal lovers, we could not ignore this.
What started as a spontaneous idea to give something back, led us to a place we will never forget.
BARC a special animal shelter in Spain
During our search, we drove past several animal shelters in Spain until we arrived at BARC in Busot. From the very first moment, this place felt different.
This local animal shelter runs entirely on donations and the efforts of volunteers. Dogs, cats, and other animals that have been abandoned or neglected are cared for here.
What immediately struck us was the dedication of the people behind the shelter. Sue and Alan, along with other volunteers, even live on the premises to care for the animals day and night.
Despite the difficult circumstances, they have been able to find new homes for 56 dogs in the past year.
Our visit to the shelter in Busot
Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome and a tour of the shelter. We quickly realized how much work is done daily.
We have:
- played with the dogs
- walked the dogs
- helped with cleaning
- fed the animals
- spent time with the volunteers
Some dogs and cats have been here for 3 to 4 years. That deeply touched us.
At the same time, we also saw something beautiful: despite everything, the animals here receive love, attention, and a safe place.
What we donated to the animal shelter
After our first visit, we knew one thing for sure: we wanted to help.
We immediately:
- bought large quantities of dog and cat food
- donated snacks, treats, and rewards
- brought toys and products from Duke & Scoop
But we wanted to do more.
That's why we organized a campaign for our customers.
For two weeks, we ran a special promotion where we not only wanted to give back to our customers but also to the animals who needed it most.

In January, we returned to the shelter.
Thanks to our customers, we were able to make a donation of €2184.
The moment we handed over this amount was unforgettable.
The volunteers' reaction deeply touched us. They told us about the high veterinary costs and how difficult it sometimes is to keep everything going.
For them, this donation not only meant financial support, but also recognition for their work.

At Duke & Scoop, everything revolves around a love for animals.
We started this brand with our own dogs in mind, but we also know that not every animal gets the same opportunities.
Seeing stray dogs in Spain, and at the same time the hard work of people who care for these animals, has only motivated us to do more.
