Dog Muzzles
Types of Dog Muzzle
The right type of dog muzzle depends on what you need it for and how long your dog will wear it. Some muzzles are built for control and durability on active walks, while others are made from soft, breathable fabric for calm, short moments like grooming or a check-up.
Below you will find the three styles we stock, each with its own strengths, so you can match the muzzle to your dog rather than the other way around. Every one is breathable and adjustable, because a muzzle your dog can wear without fuss is a muzzle that actually gets used.
Tactical Muzzles
Tactical muzzles are the sturdy choice for medium to large dogs who need a secure, reliable fit. Our reflective tactical muzzle is made from durable, breathable material with adjustable straps and a strong buckle, so it stays put even with an enthusiastic puller.
The design still lets your dog drink and pant freely, which matters on longer walks and during training, and the reflective detailing adds a little extra visibility when the light starts to fade.
Soft Muzzles
Soft muzzles are the gentle, lightweight option for calm, everyday situations. Made from padded nylon with adjustable fastenings, they sit comfortably around the snout for short moments like a nail trim, a groom or a vet visit.
They are quick to put on and take off, which helps keep stress low for a nervous dog. For many owners, a soft muzzle is the easiest first step into muzzle use.
Mesh Muzzles
Mesh muzzles use a breathable mesh covering that sits lightly over the snout. The open weave keeps plenty of air flowing, so your dog stays cool and comfortable while they are being groomed or gently handled.
The soft fabric is kind against the skin, and the adjustable strap keeps the fit secure without pressing too tightly. Like soft muzzles, mesh designs are best suited to shorter, calmer moments rather than long walks.
How to Choose a Dog Muzzle?
Choosing a dog muzzle comes down to one question: what will your dog actually be doing while wearing it? For active walks or training with a larger dog, a tactical muzzle gives you control while still allowing panting and drinking. For grooming, a vet visit or a quick handling job, a soft or mesh muzzle is usually more comfortable for shorter spells.
Whatever the situation, look for a breathable design with adjustable straps, so the fit is snug but never tight. A muzzle should let your dog open their mouth slightly to pant, and it is meant for short, supervised use, never as a punishment.
If your dog is anxious or reactive, introduce the muzzle slowly and pair it with something they enjoy, and speak to your vet if you are unsure what suits your dog best.
And for the record, reaching for a muzzle does not make your dog a bad dog. It is a kind, responsible choice at the right moment, and your dog will barely notice it once the fit is right.
How Do You Size a Dog Muzzle?
Sizing a dog muzzle starts with two simple measurements: the circumference of your dog's snout and its length. Measure the circumference around the closed snout, just below the eyes, then allow a little room so your dog can still open their mouth to pant.
For the length, measure from just below the eyes to the tip of the nose. A muzzle that is too short presses on the nose, while one that is too long slips towards the eyes when your dog sniffs the ground.
Adjustable straps help you fine-tune the fit around the head and neck. Check each product's size guide before you choose, and if your dog sits between sizes or has an unusual snout shape, size up rather than down for comfort.
